1991 Yamaha Vmax 1200 , On consignment is a 1991 Yamaha Vmax 1200 project. The owner purchased this bike about 5 years ago from a gentleman that kept it in his basement. Unfortunately the moisture got to it and it has a decent amount of surface rust on the engine and frame. The bike has been sitting in the corner of the current owner’s shop up until this summer. He has since removed the carburetors, disassembled them, thoroughly cleaned them, and rebuilt them with factory jetting. The gas tank was filled with rust, so it was removed and the inside was pressure washed. A new fuel sender, seal, and fuel filter were installed before putting it back in the bike. The fuel pump was run off the bike with some 2 stroke fuel to lubricate it and help it wake up. It has not skipped a beat since being put back into service. The brake and clutch hydraulics have been flushed and filled with fresh ATE DOT 4 brake fluid. The bike runs and rides fairly well considering how long it has been sitting. The front forks need to be rebuilt, the rest of the fluids changed, and the tires replaced due to their age. The carbs have not been synced since the rebuild, but the owner has just acquired the vacuum gauges needed to do so. The vboost controller will open the valves, but it will not close them. They can be closed manually by powering the connection to the solenoid directly. The vboost is currently open all of the time for that reason. Also note that the tach does not work. He suspects some dirty grounds, but has not looked into it. The bike has a Corbin seat and passenger back rest, and comes with some additional parts that came off of a parts bike: Forward controls, highway pegs, and some Jardine slip-ons that are pretty beat up. It also comes with a windscreen, the factory owner’s manual, and tool kit.
